If you want to meet the squids yourself, you'll want to load up the Minecraft launcher and choose "latest snapshot" in your installations tab. Do beware, axolotls will attack glow squids so be sure not to let them hang out. In other snapshots so far they've added copper and amethyst blocks as well as those axolotls that everyone's so excited about. I'm already interested in seeing whatever glowing displays players come up with.Īs ever, Mojang are leading up to their Caves & Cliffs update by putting new additions into snapshots for players to try out ahead of time. Apparently it can even be colored for some extra flair. If you kill a glow squid they'll drop glow ink sacs which can be used to make the text on signs visible from far away. They need a light level of zero, natural stone blocks as a floor and 5+ blocks free space above the floor to spawn in, not necessarily completely filled with water. Glow lichen has been added too, a plant light source that can be found and harvest with shears inside caves. Generally you would find some in underwater ravines and flooded caves. The shiny new squids aren't all that glows in the new update either. They even make a sweet little tinkling sound as they float around. Naturally, I found a dark little pond and slapped down a whole handful of them and they're quite pretty. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. For now, you'll need to create a Creative world and use spawn eggs to summon them up. They're meant to live in deep dark caves but Mojang say they won't spawn naturally in this snapshot. Mojang's update notes for snapshot 21w03A explain what's possible with the new glow squids and their ink. The newest Minecraft snapshot adds some more parts of the upcoming Caves & Cliffs update including the pretty glow squids and their glowing ink. Without fail, it means that the always creative Minecraft players will come up with unexpected ways to use them. I don't even need a solution, (though that would be great if I could get one!) I'm just curious of why its happening. It's been years since I've played Minecraft on a regular basis but I still really enjoy when new features and creatures start showing up in game. Hope someone can help or at least say why this is happening. There are some places for them to swim away, but I'm pretty sure they aren't just swimming away because I saw them disappear in front of me multiple times and nothing is coming from the spawners. If it helps, It's at around Y:3 and the cave is in a plains biome. You can also look for Caves with a decently sized water sourceGlow Squids spawn there. You can also find a bunch of Glow Squids in the ocean depths. Especially, in ravines and underground lakes. The Glow Squids usually spawn in dark underwater areas. As I watched, I saw them just disappear one at a time, some did right in front of me. The Glow Squids are passive aquatic mobs that players can find in underground water sources. I waited for a while, just watching them to see if they would despawn or just die for weird some reason. I tried again, but knowing they would just despawn, I added glow squid spawners. At this point, I knew something was not right. After spawning, they stayed a bit but despawned again. Next, just to be safe, I named the glow squid egg (I just named it "."). Just bring this jig near the bright light source for a few seconds then it will glow. I thought it was normal, I went a bit far away, though I was confused why a passive mob would despawn, even if I wasn't too far away. These Squid Jigs are your choice to catch squid. I used a spawn egg and placed a lot but they all disappeared whilst I was doing some terraforming away from them. I'm trying to add glow squids because they look nice and they seem to (they don't actually) produce light so I don't need to use sea lanterns, glowstone, glow lichen, etc. I've been having fun building in the 1.17 snapshot 21w08b and I'm making an underwater cave house.
